May 19, 7-11 p.m.
The 4731 art community on Grand River is holding a fundraiser for the Detroit Opera House and the Michigan Opera Theatre this Saturday. That's awfully nice. The event coincides with the Young, Wild and Free event at 4731. Sounds even better. Go here for more info. The fundraiser is May 19, 7-11 p.m.

The event is at, you guessed it, 4731 Grand River, at the northwest corner of Detroit's Woodbridge neighborhood.

Bollywood ballyhoo comes to Music Hall

This multi-media concert, presented by the Michigan Philharmonic along with music professionals and singers from India, was envisioned by the creative genius of American-Indian producer and director, Narendra Sheth.

Seventeen songs were selected from a variety of Bollywood films dating from the 1950s to today. Some familiar titles include: Jai Ho (from Slumdog Millionaire), Tum Jo Aaye (Once Upon A Time in Mumbai) and Mere Sapano Ki Rani.  The songs were chosen to represent a variety of Bollywood music and will deliver three different medleys including, east/west fusion medley, classical medley, and instrumental Bollywood music medley.

For the first-time ever, Indian film and classical music will unite in an exceptional orchestration for Bollywood in the D, premiering Saturday, May 19, 7 p.m. at the Music Hall Center for Performing Arts in Downtown Detroit. Tickets prices range from $35 to $200; for more information and to buy tickets, go here.

Environmental sculptor Michael McGillis installs new work at Public Pool

May 19, 7-11 p.m.
A graduate of the College for Creative College, Michael McGillis has spent the last decade creating sculptures interwoven into the natural landscape. He has been noted among the likes of land artists such as Andy Goldworthy and Nils-Udo for his installations like "Flow Line" in Auvergne, France and "Wake" in the Franconia Sculpture Park in Minnesota.

That's impressive. But McGillis has done more. Much more. No one knows exactly what he'll install at Public Pool, which encourages secretive, stealth-like exhibitions. We can't wait.

The storefront art space is at 3309 Caniff in Hamtramck.

Let's go to the prom, with Haute to Death at Temple Bar

May 19, 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Hooray, we say, Haute to Death celebrates it's fifth annual prom night this weekend at the Temple Bar, 2906 Cass Ave. at the crossroads of downtown and Midtown.

It's a night of DJ-music fun. expect to dance yourself silly to post-punk, new wave, Italo, electro-house and whatever.

It's only a buck to get in. Prom attire would be nice but is not required.
