A new organization, Inside Detroit, is helping people who want to take a closer look at what Detroit has to offer.
Founders Jeanette Pierce and Maureen Kearns will provide metro Detroit visitors and residents the opportunity to experience Detroit only as an insider can. “It’s kind of like a friend-for-rent,” Pierce says.
Inside Detroit will tailor outings and provide guides for each individual or group — whether it’s experiencing downtown’s martini bars, theaters, shops, history or all of the above. The outings can as long as people want and will emphasize the walkability in the city.
Inside Detroit will “automatically make you feel like an insider,” says Pierce.
The group will also offer “base” outings for people with varying levels of Detroit experience. A beginners outing will go to places like Hard Rock Café and Greektown. The intermediate level will be geared toward the special events crowd, people who know the basics of the city, but not all the hotspots. Advanced outings are for those who know Detroit well and want to get better tapped into the corner bars and underground scene. And a special restaurant outing will highlight Detroit’s ethnic eateries and cater to those who don’t drink.
Whether you chose a customized or one of the four base outings, you will also learn about the history of the city and engage in networking with locals along the way.
