Round-up: Steve's Soul Food heads downtown, new Midtown Asian Market, DDOT wins bike rack grant

The venerable Steve's Soul Food has brought its infamous vittles to the East Riverfront District, taking over the space formerly occupied by Magnolia. Macaroni and cheese, catfish and collard greens are joined on the menu by steaks, lobster and crab legs. Food is served cafeteria-style, but diners are assisted by servers and prices are a la carte.

Steve's Soul Food Downtown is located at 1440 Franklin Street; call 313-393-4846. The restaurant is open seven days from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The original Steve's is at 8443 Grand River north of W. Grand Blvd.

An Asian food market, Little Asia Mart, has opened on Third Street just north of Forest -- an ideal location to serve the Wayne State University community. It carries Sri Lankan, Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese and Bangladeshi food, movies and other goods. The store is at 4718 Third. Call 833-0618 for more info.

And last but far from least, the Detroit Department of Transportation has been awarded a grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation that will allow the agency to outfit all of its buses with bike racks over the next three years.
