Downtown YMCA gets even nicer...believe it or not

Downtown's Boll Family YMCA has completed some improvements outside the building that has made the stunning structure just that much nicer-looking.

A fountain (pictured) was installed at the entrance plaza and an outdoor play area was completed on the Library Street side of the the complex. "This stuff was planned pretty much from the time the building was opened," says Doug Allar, the building's facilities generalist. "The two projects were done with donations from private foundations and pledges made by individuals, not just YMCA operational money."

The play area includes a water feature that children can play in, a sand play area, green turf grass, climbing apparatus and slide, as well as a storage shed that doubles as a playhouse and a gazebo.

Allar says that, while plans are not finalized, there will be future work. "There will likely be additional sculpture art work outside."
