Hubbell Fund kickoff event draws 450, raises $25,000

At its inaugural fundraiser last month, the Colin Hubbell Fund raised $25,000, organizers said last week.

"I think the event was a great way to kick off the fund and remind people of the many positive and unique qualities of Detroit," says Trish Hubbell. "It reminded people of Colin's hope, commitment and passion for Detroit, and I think it inspired some of us to continue our work to build a more walkable, sustainable city." About 450 attended the event at the Majestic Theater.

The fund is currently developing guidelines for grant applications for community organizations working to improve Midtown, and there are plans to direct funds to entrepreneurs there, too.

"Colin was passionate about building communities where people know and depend on one another, and where the creative class can thrive," says Trish. "We hope the Colin Hubbell Fund will be a catalyst for for building a stronger network of small business, entrepreneurs and community organizations in Detroit."

Model D's Tom Hendrickson produced a video for the event. Check it out here.
