Detroit Hardware

6432 Woodward Avenue
On Woodward between Baltimore and Milwaukee

313-875-0838

As you might expect, some of the wares from this nearly century old hardware store won't address every modern-day building need, but dig deep and you may be rewarded with more than a few gems that cavernous contemporaries could never match. Uncommon standouts include: incredibly rare key blanks, custom cut window shades, pressure cooker parts, wooden washboards, and plumbing fixtures for claw-foot bathtubs from the 1920's. This two level shop in the Woodward Gateway Retail District is stocked with an enormity of other hard to find products that could never be matched by a monster-sized home improvement center; but the biggest difference is the personal attention you'd find in a small town neighborhood hardware store. This "candy store" for adults, complete with charmingly tattered wood floors and a vintage tin ceiling, is the only spot left in the city to score a fishing or hunting license; making it as much a seminal part of Detroit as a great source for your home (or loft) improvements.
