IC Data Communications expands in TechTown, hires five

IC Data Communications is growing so quickly its waiting for its home base to catch up. The TechTown-based startup has expanded its space by 300 square feet to accommodate its new hires and patiently waiting for the business accelerator new TechTwo incubator space to open so it can continue its growth.

"As TechTwo comes online we're looking to move to that building," says Terence Willis, president of IC Data Communications. "We need more places for people to sit."

The 6-year-old IT company has hired five people over the last year, rounding out its staff to 17 employees and three interns. That staff expansion includes the firm's first full-time sales team. It expects to grow its staff and revenue by another 50-100 percent over the next year.

IC Data Communications has focuses on providing managed IT services primarily to government agencies both domestically and internationally, such as the Nigerian Federal Police Force. It expects to continue to expand its government sales and take on more projects in Detroit, such as those offered through the Detroit Medical Center's expansion projects.

"For the most part our growth has come from referrals," Willis says. "We just do what we do."
