For fresh view of Woodward, head to new Majestic deck

When the Zainea family built out the Magic Stick inside their Majestic Theater entertainment complex back in 1995, they planned ahead for a rooftop deck by cutting out an eventual entrance for it. Well, it's been a while, but that entrance will finally be getting some use when the 2,400-square feet deck makes its debut on June 23 for the fireworks. "We wanted to start with a bang like that," says Dave Zainea.

The deck has its own bar and will eventually have a light menu. There will be music, but Zainea assures that it will not be "too loud out there for our neighbors." The deck will be open to all Majestic guests during some Magic Stick shows while others will afford entry to only guests of the Stick.

The decor plays off the famous neon "Bowl" sign, with blue, cream and green  accented by yellows and reds. Cedar is the primary material, with steel lending an industrial feel.

The view to the west takes in the Michigan Central Station, to the south, Downtown's skyline and to the east, the Detroit Medical Center.

Zainea hopes the deck pumps business to the Majestic in the summer months, a notoriously slow time in the bar industry.
