Tour operator sets up shop in Compuware building

DTOURS Detroit will open a storefront location at 1048 Woodward in the Shops at Compuware on September 8. Proprietor Mark Denson decided to start the business because he "got tired of hearing people say they didn't know where to go downtown!"

Denson's target audience is visitors as well as locals that wish to learn more about their hometown. He has already been working with the corporate market; companies use the tours as recruitment tools and for employee rewards.

DTOURS' offerings range from downtown pub crawls to regional sightseeing tours by bus. There are neighborhood tours, sports-oriented tours and a series of African-American heritage tours. All work some kind of local entertainment into the schedule.

The Visitors and Welcome Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Souvenirs and goods made by local artists are also available at the storefront.

Denson says his mission is "to create a memorable experience that is uniquely Detroit."
