Sub shop opens downtown with free delivery

The closed Tubby's at Washington Blvd. and Fort St. did not take long to reopen -- as an independent deli, Home Run Subs. Owner Ron Cameron might be familiar to old-time downtowners -- he put in time at the Book Cadillac and Fort Shelby hotels back in the day -- and sports fans -- he hosts a sports talk show on AM stations 1440 and 1460.

Cameron decided to open up shop because he saw a gap in the restaurant market: delivery. "Nobody delivers downtown at night," he says. Home Run will deliver anywhere within about a mile for no charge. He plans to target hotels in particular, since there are 10 within delivery range -- four of them within three blocks.

Home Run's menu consists of deli sandwiches, grilled subs and sliders. There are eight tables for dine-in, as well as an outdoor patio.

Home Run will open for business Thursday, March 15. Hours are Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight. Call 313-965-1370.
