Local favorite for shoes, Sole Sisters, steps into Midtown

Shoe fetishists, rejoice. Finally, a boutique with stylish footwear has opened within the city limits.

The third retail space at the Mid-Med Lofts has been occupied by Sole Sisters, a store that also has locations in Rochester and Royal Oak.

Proprietor Powell Peabody used to run the Royal Oak location of Sole Sisters. "Our vision is to bring really fun shoes that are difficult to find, yet affordable, into the Detroit area," she says. "We carry a lot of brands that no one else carries in Michigan."

Such brands include Tsubo, Biviel and Detny (which is designed by former Detroiters Shane and Shawn Williams). Shoes range in price anywhere from $12 to $600, and in style from "sneakers to stilettos," says Peabody. Sole Sisters also carries purses, jewelry and clothing including Detroit Manufacturing and Scanty pajamas.

Peabody sees a bright future for retail in Midtown. "Employees and students from the area were banging on the door when we were getting ready," she says. "Now that we are officially open, the ladies are responding really well."

Sole Sisters was voted best women's shoe store in Metro Detroit in this year's Click on Detroit competition.

The store is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The address is 87 E. Canfield, and its phone number is 313-831-9013.
