Restoration of Belle Isle's Sunset Point complete with new comfort station, landscaping and sidewalk

After five years of fund raising and construction, the Belle Isle Women's Committee's first project, the restoration of Sunset Point, is complete. President and founder Sarah Earley said the visibility of the island's westernmost end went into their decision on where to focus their initial efforts. "We wanted a project that would really be a signature thing, highly visible," she says. "We wanted a very different project as opposed to putting a roof on an old building ... Now we are moving on to putting roofs on old buildings!"

Over $900,000 has been raised for Sunset Point, which has a new comfort station, landscaping and sidewalks. BWIC has launched a paver campaign that will contribute to future BWIC projects which have not yet been named. Four sizes of granite pavers, benches, bike racks, picnic tables, barbeque grills and trash receptacles are all available to sponsor, ranging in price from $125 to $2,500.

BIWC will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for Sunset Point at at 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 23.
