Not just for special events anymore: The Whitney's garden goes full-time

Outdoor dining denizens will have a new spot to enjoy this summer: The Whitney has made its lovely landscaped garden available for food and drinks seven days a week. "Everything we do inside, we're going to do outside," says owner Bud Liebler.

The garden has three distinct areas: a casual bar area with high-top seating, a middle deck that serves both a garden menu and from the traditional Whitney menu, and a third space that focuses solely on fine dining. "There is enough greenery for perfect privacy," says Liebler. "It's a little oasis in the heart of Midtown."

Lunch and dinner will be served Monday through Thursday until 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and a full-service brunch brunch will be featured on Sundays.

Music is also on the menu. Tuesdays will feature electronica with DJ Powder Blu, and there will be classical guitar on Wednesdays. Radio stations 89X and 93.9 The River will host live acoustic bands on Thursdays, and Fridays will have happy hour DJs. "We're going to keep the garden busy," says Liebler.

The Whitney, which underwent a recent indoor renovation, offers free shuttle service to Tigers games and cultural events.
