Mitten State denizens unite for Detroit

A new poll from the Detroit Free Press and WXYZ-TV suggests the majority of Michiganders believe the success of Detroit is critical to the state's economic health.

Statewide, 72 percent of voters say Detroit is essential or important to the vitality of the mitten state; which pollster Bernie Porn suggests is a watershed moment for the city's rebuilders.

Excerpt:

"People understand there's an interdependence that would suggest we can't just let Detroit wither away," Porn said. One interesting finding: Young voters (ages 18-40) and seniors 65 and older were identical in their views. Among both groups, 72 percent said Detroit is "important" or "essential" to Michigan's economy.
