Edibles Rex hires 10 in Warren-Connor on new catering clients

Edibles Rex recently made Fortune magazine's Inner City 100 list, putting the food-service company based in Detroit's Warren-Connor neighborhood on the map as one of the fastest growing companies in urban America.

"We have consistently hired 10 new people in each of the last five years," says Tammy Tedesco, owner of Edibles Rex. "We had 12 percent growth in 2011."

Edibles Rex is a full-service catering, wholesale and food-service company that makes its home on Detroit's east side. The 18-year-old company currently employs 76 people and the occasional summer intern, providing catering services to the likes of the Big Three and a number of local schools.

Edibles Rex has watched its revenue increase steadily in recent years due to an increase in demand for corporate catering and school meals. The company has carved out a niche for providing breakfasts, snacks and other assorted meals to the growing number of charter schools in Detroit.

"A lot of charter schools don't have kitchens," Tedesco says. "They don't want to handle their own food service so we bring the food to them."
