David Byrne in our place: Talking Head in town doing music for Sean Penn film

All the hipsters and old new wavers are buzzing over the fact that Talking Heads founder and Brian Eno collaborator (and that's just the tip of the iceberg of a fabulous career 35-year career) David Byrne has been all over Midtown and downtown this month. We saw him at Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) on Saturday for the Mike Kelley opening and later spotted him riding a bike on Michigan Avenue at Washington Blvd. Julie Hinds of the Freep is noticing, too.

Who was the slender man with the silver hair walking around the Blocktoberfest outdoor street fair on Lafayette in downtown Detroit today?

None other than the legendary David Byrne of Talking Heads fame, who said he's in town because he's doing music for "This Must Be The Place" -- the Sean Penn movie that's filming in Michigan -- and has what he called "a tiny role" in the project.

The innovative musician arrived in town a few days ago and described Detroit as endlessly fascinating.
